Doctoral studies

Since the start of the Master's degree program in "Digital Humanities" in the 2017/18 academic year, it has also been possible to choose the dissertation subject "Digital Humanities" as part of the doctoral program in Philosophy.

1. One of the following degrees from a recognized domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution is required for admission to the doctoral programme in Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Graz:

a: the completion of a relevant diploma course or an equivalent course of study at a recognized domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution with at least 300 ECTS credits or
b: the completion of a relevant Master's course or an equivalent course of study at a domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution with at least 60 ECTS credits. The completed Bachelor's and Master's degree programs must have a total of 300 ECTS credits, or a total duration of 10 relevant semesters if no ECTS credits are included in the curriculum.
c: Recommendations for exceptions to lit. a and b can be submitted by the Curricula Commission to the Rectorate.

2. If equivalence is basically given and only individual supplements are missing for full equivalence, admission can be granted with conditions for examinations or courses to be completed. These conditions must be fulfilled within the first two semesters.

3. The Rectorate decides on admission to the doctoral program.

Implementation regulations:

  1. The completion of an MA in Digital Humanities is considered a relevant degree program. In addition, another humanities diploma or master's degree program is considered a relevant degree program if at least 24 ECTS credits of relevant courses and examinations in digital humanities can be proven (e.g. by submitting the certificate "Information Modeling in the Humanities"). If the amount of 24 ECTS credits is reached, admission may be granted subject to conditions to be specified.
  2. If 24 ECTS credits of relevant courses and examinations are not achieved, the applicant is not to be admitted.
