Department of Digital Humanities
Engagement with digital methods and sources has a long tradition at the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Graz. Since the 1990s, technical IT infrastructure and subject-specific expertise in the development and implementation of digital methods for humanities research have been built up, integrated into university teaching, and finally, in 2008, institutionally anchored through the establishment of the “Center for Information Modelling in the Humanities”. In 2019, this center was transformed into an institute.
The Institute for Digital Humanities is one of Austria’s leading institutions in the field of Digital Humanities and is also actively involved at the international level in numerous research infrastructures, scholarly associations, and third-party funded projects.
In terms of content, the institute’s research focuses on the semantic and formal analysis and dissemination of the digital representations of cultural artefacts.
