Department
The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Graz has a long tradition of dealing with digital methods and sources: since the 1990s, a technical IT infrastructure and subject-specific expertise in the development and implementation of digital methods for research content in the humanities has been built up and incorporated into university teaching, which was finally institutionally anchored in 2008 with the establishment of the "Centre for Information Modelling in the Humanities".
As one of the leading Austrian locations for digital humanities, the Centre for Information Modelling, which was established as a department in 2019, is also internationally active in numerous international research infrastructures and professional associations and, in addition to a large number of third-party funded projects from various national and international funding bodies, has been able to acquire no less than 3 ERC grants since 2021. On 1 August 2024, the Centre for Information Modelling will officially be renamed the "Department of Digital Humanities".
In terms of content, the semantic and formal indexing and mediation of digital representations of cultural artifacts is the central research topic of the department.
